Herefordshire Libraries Schools Library Service is a simple, cost-effective way to keep school library resources current and obtain the very best in contemporary fiction - meeting curriculum needs and encouraging reading for pleasure.
All high schools in Herefordshire can subscribe to this service to receive library books and support.
A well-resourced library and resource centre plays an important role in encouraging pupils to read widely and develop basic information literacy skills. As professional qualified librarians we are experts in selecting stock and can provide advice on the best resources for school. Subscribing to the schools library offer provides excellent value for money, giving schools more books for their budget.

Library Books and Support SLA
What is included in the SLA:
- Long-term loan of 180 quality paperback fiction books to add to your existing collection
- Purchasing discount from our specialist children’s book suppliers
- Book disposal service
- Advice and support
Books are selected to your requirements for age-appropriate content and reading levels by experienced librarians. Books are supplied ready for use with plastic jackets and date labels.
Cost
Single flat rate of £810 per school.

Library Development Support
A professional qualified librarian can have a significant impact on your school. This subscription gives you additional support when you need it. We can provide advice on developing your library from general advice on layout to hands-on support in school with library stock edits and relocations.

PSHE 'Shelf Help' Reading Well Books
The Reading Well scheme developed by the Reading Agency is a specific collection of books to support teenagers with a wide-range of mental health issues.
Endorsed by experts and aimed at 13-18 year olds the books support issues such as depression, anxiety and eating disorders, and difficult life experiences, like bullying and exams.
- Receive an annual loan of the ‘Shelf Help’ Reading Well book collection
