We will use our professional expertise to provide school-focused solutions across the full range of information governance matters including policy queries, complex data breaches and individual information casework such as Subject Access Requests (SARs) and Freedom of Information Requests (FOIs).

Data Protection and Information Governance can be a complex area with regular changes to legislation that affect individuals and organisations in the management of personal data, records and information.
Herefordshire Council's Information Governance Team has specialist knowledge and understand both the local and national context in which schools operate. We will use our professional expertise to provide school-focused solutions across the full range of information governance matters such as policy queries or complex data breaches and individual information casework such as Subject Access Requests (SARs) and Freedom of Information Requests (FOIs)
What the service provides
- A named Data Protection Officer, who meets the legislative requirements
- On-going training for staff, workforce and governors on information governance topics relating to data protection, freedom of information, environmental information and records retention
- Templates for data protection policies and procedures, contract clauses and schedules of processing, privacy notices, SARS, data audits, data impact assessments, and data incident reporting and recording
- Templates for freedom of information publication schemes, policies, procedures and guidance
- Assistance with carrying out a data audit and creating and maintaining a personal data asset register
- Assistance with responding to requests made under information legislation such as SARs, data subject right requests and FOI requests
- Assistance with record retention enquiries
- Liaison with the Information Commissioner's Officer for requests for review, complaints and data breach reporting
- Gap analysis and reviews to inform action plans for ongoing data protection compliance and accountability.
- Unlimited telephone / email advisory service with site visits as required
